ARMISTICE DAY CENTENARY

Remembrance Sunday Service 10.30 11th November

St George's Church Swannington, home to the village war Memorial, will be open on Wednesday 7th November 10-30 am - 1.00 pm & Saturday 10th 11.00 am - 4.00 pm for people to visit and see the displays. These include knitted and other decorative poppies by church and community members and children of Swannington C of E Primary School and Griffydam Primary School, as well as information about local people who died and survived during World War One.

Also on display are pictures depicting war , kindly loaned by Mike Bannard.

Michael (Mike) Bannard was born in 1960 to Royal Air Forces parents. Mike joined the Army Air Corps in 1980, seeing service in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, West Germany and the UK. After leaving the Army he was recovering from an injury sustained in Service which made him less mobile. Mike used this time during recovery to paint and sketch. It was then, Mikes family supported his decision to attend university to study his passion for Art. Since then Mike has held exhibits and produced work even for the royal mail. He very much hopes to inspire. . "When you view my work I ask you to reflect and remember. Always dedicated to my family".
